ATP ROGERS CUP BETTING FEDERER VS. BERDYCH IN WIMBLEDON REPRISAL

Roger Federer and Tomas Berdych are set to reprise their Wimbledon clash, today when they collide in the Rogers Cup quarters. A chance to advance into the Rogers Cup semis is on the line.
Federer goes into this match having lost both their last two meetings, the only two meetings on 2010. Lifetime, however, Federer leads the series 8-3 over Berdych.
Revenge. Redemption. Retribution. Just some of the many catch words that are being tossed about in reference to this match where Federer’s camp is concerned.
Federer can thank Berdych for singularly denying him the chance to defend his Wimbledon title and sending him down to the ignominy of the No.3 ranking in the world.
In spite of Federer’s recent negative trend against Berdych, he is still happily regarded favourably in the markets.
At a quick glance, William Hill has Federer listed as the 2/5 favourite. As does Paddy Power. Betfair is offering Federer at a best price of 1.47 while Bet365 is trading him at -250.
Unanimous is the take on Federer by bookmakers but is he so warmly regarded by bettors.
Admittedly, there has been some fallout with backers since his dip in form. He’s had mixed results this season. Here’s another thing, he has lost some strange matches. Gulbis? Hewitt? Montanes? Baghdatis?
In fact, aside from beating Davydenko and Murray at the Australian Open final (let us face it, Davydenko is off form (wrist injury) and Murray’s enjoying his very own existential crisis and is perhaps even in worse shape mentally than Federer is), he hasn’t beaten a single player in the top ten.
On the strength of this trend, quite a few bettors have become slightly prejudiced towards le Fed and turned to his opponents in the markets. The riches were always better in the opposite’s camp but when before they were a hallucinatory bet, they aren’t so anymore – within reason of course and depending on the player.
Berdych is offered at 7/4 with William Hill and Paddy Power. Betfair has him down at 3.1 while Bet365 lists him at +175.
One used to accuse Berdych of several shortcomings, particularly, of the mental variety. Talent he always had. Mental fortitude he didn’t. These last four months he has put paid on all those charges.
He has the positive trend against Federer going into this match, having beaten him at the Miami Masters and Wimbledon; ergo, he has the momentum. It remains to be seen whether he can indeed pull of the hat trick. If he does, I think he will have found a permanent new residence: in Fed’s head.
