ATP ROGERS CUP BETTING FEDERER vs. DJOKOVIC
A better prelude to the main event of the American hard court swing, the US Open, could not have come about had pundits scripted it themselves as the Rogers Cup delivers the dream semi-final line up.
All top four players in the world, also incidentally, all past champions at this event, advanced to set up a mouth-watering weekend of tennis betting.
As I write, world No.1 Rafael Nodal is to court battling world No.4, and defending champion, Andy Murray for a place in the tournament’s premier movement.
Following the attention-worthy clash between Nadal and Murray, is an equally attention-worthy semi-final clash between World No.3 Roger Federer and No.2 Novak Djokovic.
Federer enters the semi-final clash as the favourite, tipped at 8/13 to win outright. His value increased exponentially following his victory over Berdych in the quarterfinals that saw a late stage comeback by Federer after letting a one-set lead slip through his fingers.
The win over Berdych was precisely the sort of victory Federer needed to revive not only his confidence but also punters confidence in him.
Djokovic enters the clash as the mere puppy, tipped at 6/5 to win outright. After a slow start to his tournament, Djokovic picked up form and in his quarterfinal clash, he was nigh perfect in dismantling Jeremy Chardy.
Over 35 markets are available at William Hill for this clash, some of the more interesting markets involve performance. By that I mean, set and games betting.
Federer is a listed at 13/8 to win in straight sets while Djokovic is tipped at 3/1. A three-set affair has Federer going for 13/5 right now and Djokovic at 10/3.
Federer is offered at 8/11 to take the first and second set, respectively. Djokovic is a tempting Evens bet.
Federer showed some vulnerability against Berdych but the most memorable and positive aspect of his performance was his resilience. It has been a long time since we have seen Federer work his way back into a match and win. This trend augurs well for Federer.
Most everybody is hoping for a Nadal-Federer final. The rivalry last featured on American soil at the 2005 Masters Miami. The Rogers Cup is one of two major precursors to the US Open and reviving the rivalry now could have important consequences for the US Open.
No matter what happenes, and regardless of which rivalry features in the Rogers Cup final, we are on course for a fabulous showdown tomorrow. Stay tuned.
