ATP ROME MASTERS BETTING TIPS: TSONGA AND BERDYCH EYE THIRD ROUND SPOTS
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Tomas Berdych aim to confirm a third round appointment at the Rome Masters today when they take on Viktor Troicki and Stanislas Wawrinka, respectively. Neither Troicki nor Wawrinka will be cakewalks judging by the markets that have taken shape at William Hill, which means there are some compelling bets for tennis buffs to spot.
First things first, the clash between Tsonga and Troicki is tightly set with Tsonga trading at 2/7 and Troicki listed at 5/2 odds.
The betting trend surely will fall in line with Tsonga. After all, he is the top ten player and encouragingly, on good form this season.
For a bit of perspective: Tsonga trails lifetime 0-2 against Troicki, if you can believe – albeit the one match saw Troicki get into the win column on a withdrawal (injury) by Tsonga. The other a convincing win by Troicki that can’t be taken away from him and as such, is the more representative result of their head-to-head. You wouldn’t be alone in believing there is value in Troicki for the upset.
Set betting markets start with Tsonga listed at 8/11 to win in straight sets and at 16/5 to win in three sets. Conversely, Troicki is listed at 5/1 to win in straights and at 11/2 to win in three sets.
Set betting markets continue with predicting the score of each set. Tsonga to win 6-2 is the most favourable option listed at 5/1 while Troicki to win 6-4 is the best priced at 19/2.
In our second feature match, Tomas Berdych takes on Stanislas Wawrinka and the market on this match is delicately poised indeed. Berdych is listed at mere 8/11 odds and Wawrinka is trading at Even odds.
Berdych has several things going for him, higher ranking, solid form and raw talent that many tip second to Federer (If you can believe). Problem with Berdych, he is synonymous with the word “potential.” He has yet to come of age, and make good on high expectations.
Nonetheless, Berdych is favoured to take down Wawrinka and recommending him to do so is a recent spate of results at the Masters level, as well as, a 4-2 head-to-head edge over Wawrinka.
Set Betting where these two are concerned is as follows: Berdych to win in straight sets is a solid 2/1 bet and to win in three sets is listed at 11/4. Wawrinka in turn is trading at 5/2 take the match in straight sets and curiously, 3/1 to win in three sets. I say curiously because that is a rather favourable price on Wawrinka, who is not a clutch player. If push came to shove I would be looking to back Berdych over Wawrinka in a heartbeat.
