ATP US OPEN BETTING PREVIEW YOUZHNY VS ROBREDO
Mikhail Youzhny and Tommy Robredo are set to decide a spot in the US Open quarterfinals today, with both having an equal shot to advance.
Bookies expect Youzhny to win outright, listing him as the favourite at 1/3. They are not exactly confident he’ll accomplish the task convincingly, however. Youzhny is listed just large of evens to win in straight sets, tipped at a mere 13/8.
A four or five-set win by Youzhny is trading at 5/2 and 5/1, respectively.
Bookies fancy the straight set affair best, priced at 13/10. A four or five set affair, irrespective of the winner, is listed at 6/4 and 12/5 respectively.
Robredo goes into this clash as the 9/4 puppy, which is a rather modest price. That he’s not priced out of this match sends him into the clash with some measured hope.
Certainly, bookies don’t expect Robredo to bowl over Youzhny in straight sets, as he’s priced rather large at 10/1 to win so convincingly.
A four or five-set win appears more sensible at 7/1 and 6/1, respectively.
It will be the fourth career meeting between Youzhny and Robredo when they collide. The Spaniard just edges Youzhny 2-1 lifetime; however, their head-to-head isn’t very representative of current form.
Robredo has been struggling this season but is in the midst of an encouraging run at the US Open. Youzhny, meanwhile, has worked his way back into the top 20. His form has been solid this season overall and he picked up the Munich title this summer.
The last time they met was in 2006, ironically, at the US Open R16. Four years ago, Youzhny recorded his first win over Robredo and a convincing one come to that, 6-2, 6-0, 6-1. At the time, Robredo was the World No.5 player. Youzhny, meanwhile, had slipped outside of the top 50.
Youzhny is expected to get off to a strong start by winning the first set. Bookies are quite confident he’ll take the first set as he’s priced short of evens in this market, at 4/9. In fact, both the first and second set to Youzhny, is listed at 4/9. Robredo is a mere 13/8 bet in both markets.
It is clear that markets are leaning towards Youzhny but I don't feel they are entirely swayed by him. Robredo does have a chance to win this match and if he does, you get a sense that it wouldn't be a huge upset. After all, he was a top five player once so it wouldn't be as if he mustered up the effort out of nowhere.
