ATP US OPEN BETTING TIPS MURRAY VS. WAWRINKA
Andy Murray is set to bid for a spot in the last 16 against Stanislas Wawrinka today. The pair is scheduled to take Louis Armstrong Stadium on a gorgeous, spectacular Sunday afternoon in New York.
William Hill is trading Murray at a firm price of 1/10 to win outright. Wawrinka meanwhile is listed as the distinct puppy at 11/2.
Bookies sharply favour Murray in all aspects of his clash against Wawrinka. He is a hot favourite at 4/7 to take the match in straight sets. As well, he‘s competitively priced to win the match in four or five sets, tipped at 11/4 and 9/1, respectively.
In turn, bookmaker’s aren’t cooing over Wawrinka all that much, if you ask me. The odds are stacked against him steeply.
A side from his large price tag to upset Murray, he’s also tipped large to win the match in any manner. A straight set win (most unthinkable) is priced at a whopping 28/1. Meanwhile, a 3-1 and a 3-2 score to Wawrinka is listed at 16/1 and 10/1, respectively.
As disadvantaged as Wawrinka is in the market, he’s not without hope entirely. He has a respectable head-to-head record against the Brit, trailing 3-5 lifetime. The last time they met was the 2009 Wimbledon R16 where he pushed Murray to five sets at the All England Club before succumbing 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.
Wawrinka enjoyed a brief stint, two years ago, in the top ten elite but has since dropped out. Because he’s peek-a-booed his way amongst the best, experts consider him a dangerous opponent and the expectation is that he would give the No.1 Brit a stern test.
Of course, it’s well known that Murray is in hot pursuit of his first major victory. Pundits have long predicted his best chance to breakthrough was at the US Open.
In 2008, Murray reached the final of the US Open but went down to Federer rather meekly. Earlier this year, Murray made it into his second major final at the Australian Open. Once again, Federer was waiting. Again, making light work of him.
These frustrations make Murray even more determined to finally come of age and make good on the predictions made on his behalf. They have also inspired his many critics to be more vocal in their censure.
So will Murray finally accomplish what most believe is preordained and win the US Open this year. To do so, he must survive this next hurdle. Should he falter at this stage, just watch the critiques and headlines write themselves.
