AUSSIE OPEN 4th RD BETTING: FEDERER AND SERENA MAIN ACT
As the Aussie Open continues on its resolute course towards the inevitable final act, Roger Federer and Serena Williams, who earned lead roles in the outright market before the tournament got underway at , will be looking to underscore those short odds by booking a spot in the quarterfinals today. Standing in their respective path however is Lleyton Hewitt and Samantha Stosur, Aussie hopefuls who will be looking to give the Melbourne crowd something to cheer about.
Roger Federer enters his primetime matchup against Lleyton Hewitt carrying a solid 1/14 price meanwhile, Hewitt boasts a sensible long 13/2 mark. The mark is sensible because Federer owns Hewitt 16-7 lifetime, which includes winning the last 14 meetings in a row. Almost certainly, the betting trend will side with Federer given his positive trend over Hewitt.
Long shot punters might fancy Hewitt as he isn’t exactly priced out of the market, now is he. Hallucinatory odds they are not. They are however better left for those that are not risk averse because let us face it, Rusty beating the maestro would be a humungous upset!
The market on set betting offers some good prices with Federer listed at 1/7 to win the first set and Hewitt at a mere 4/1 to win the first set. Federer to win 3-0 is offered at 1/ 2 while score lines of 3-1 and 3-2 are offered at 5/2 and 9/1, respectively. Hewitt naturally is long to win 3-0, tipped at 25/1 and shorter to win 3-1 and 3-2, each carrying a price of 16/1.
Defending champion Serena Williams is listed favourably at 1/9 odds. Samantha Stosur on the other hand is given a more reasonable shot at the upset, tipped at 5/1 odds. Has to do with the fact Stosur got into the win column against Serena in their last meeting in Stanford (2009) and only trails 1-2 lifetime.
Serena is obviously the bookies fave across the board but Stosur is the home fave and bettors looking to buck the trend can find some juicy prices to do so with.
Serena is listed at 1/5 to take the first set while Stosur is tipped well at 10/3 for the first set. Williams to win in straight sets is listed at 4/11 while Stosur comes in at a reasonable 12/1 to win in straights. A three-set marathon is 16/5 to the better of Serena while only 8/1 to the better of Stosur.
