BARCELONA AND MANCHESTER UNITED BIGGEST CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FAVOURITES TODAY
The opening day of the 2010/11 Champions League is bringing some very interesting revelations to light and many expect this year’s edition of Europe’s top club competition to feature some serious twists and turns as last year’s winner Inter Milan are not favoured to win the competition.
As it currently stands, Barcelona are favoured as the outright winners to the competition with a price trading around 3.85 on Betfair. That’s a tidy listing on a side that many assumed would walk to the trophy last year, only to be completely undone by the wily Jose Mourinho.
Chelsea have now crept into position as the second favourites with a price trading around 6.4. That’s likely due to their impressive start to the English Premier League season this year. Mourinho’s Real Madrid side are available at 6.6 while Manchester United’s odds to win the Champions League are listed at 8.7.
Arsenal’s Champions League odds are at 15.5 and that places them ahead of 16.0 Inter and 16.5 Bayern Munich.
For Tuesday’s opening Champions League fixtures, the most lopsided contests look to be Barcelona vs Panathinaikos and Manchester United vs Rangers. You can find Barca listed at odds of 1.15 pre-match, while United are available just behind them at a 1.19 price amidst heavy volume.
Benfica are solid favourites over Hapoel Tel Aviv with a 1.44 price and Lyon are just below even money at 1.99 in their fixture against Schalke 04.
Inter Milan are slight favourites at 2.42 to topple Dutch side Twente. Werder Bremen sit at even money to dispose of Tottenham Hotspur while Turkish side Bursaspor get the 2.72 edge to beat Spanish side Valencia.
