Betfair Bet: 1-100 Federer crashes out to pave the way for Murray glory

Roger Federer was backed as low as 1-100 on Betfair to beat Guillermo Canas in the second round of the Pacific Life Open but crashed out in straight sets. The Fed Express was backed at the minimum Betfair price before the start of the match, which apart from signalling his exit from the tournament, also meant the end of his 41-match unbeaten run. Canas, who has only recently returned to the Tour after a doping ban, was backed at 119-1 to win the match in straight sets and the Argentinian duly obliged by winning 7-6 6-2. It was a day full of big names crashing out with Nicolas Mahut, matched at 21-1 in-running, beating Marat Safin in three sets; Lleyton Hewitt, Tomas Berdych and Tommy Robredo are also out. Federer's exit has opened the door for a possible Andy Murray victory. The Scot, who is a 1-7 favourite to beat Nicolas Mahut in the third round is currently fourth in the betting to win the tournament after playing so well in the United States in the past and is available at 7-1 on Betfair to win his first Masters Series event. Betfair Spokesman James Pacheco said: "Our customers certainly felt it would be another smooth journey for the Fed Express and were happy to back him at the minimum price of 1-100 to beat Canas and I guess this proves Federer is human after all. The result certainly means Andy Murray has a real chance of winning the tournament now and our customers have installed him as the fourth favourite at 7-1 though Nadal is now the man to beat and is priced at 7-2". Pacific Open Winner's Market: Betfair Bet: 7-2 R. Nadal, 6-1 T. Haas , 13-2 A. Roddick, 7-1 A. Murray, 13-1 J. Blake, 19-1 N. Davydenko.
