BETFAIR ODDS CONFIRM MARTIN JOL SET FOR NEXT FULHAM MANAGER POST
It looks like things may finally be winding down in the search for a new Fulham manager and Betfair punters are seemingly concurring with each other that former Spurs boss Martin Jol is going to be the one to get the nod. It has been a tenuous day or so in this market with Jol’s price swinging wildly yesterday, drifting out to 6.0 after news emerged from Ajax that Jol was not going to be allowed to leave the club.
Martin Jol’s odds to be Next Fulham manager have been bet down to nearly 1.2 which is extremely short though not as slim as the 1.08 he was trading at before the Ajax press release was issued. You can find Jol floating around 1.25 or 1.27 at the moment.
Dave Jones appears to be the only other plausible contender at this point as he carries a 7.2 price which is just a slight uptick from where he’s been over the past few days. His price has held around that level for nearly the entire time the market has been available so I think it’s testament to how many backers he really has. I think a lot of Fulham fans would take Dave Jones but the Jol appointment does seem to be a step in the right direction in the opinions of many.
Gianfranco Zola’s name had been bandied about a bit over the past while but you’ll find him closer to 15.5 at the moment and he only has a shot if the Jol deal collapses and Jones doesn’t take the gig.
The word on the street is that Fulham representatives are meeting with Ajax management to negotiate a fee for the release of Martin Jol. This proves that Jol has basically told Fulham he wants the job and that Fulham have decided he’s the one. You can still lock in a small profit on this one and it really looks to be a done deal at this point. There are plenty of managers out there who would take the job at Ajax and I think Jol is definitely ready to step back into the Premiership fold and I think his first face-off against Spurs will be very interesting.
It will also be interesting to see how this signing affects the Premier League sack-race betting, which should be heating up come October or November!
