BETFAIR TIPS FOR FOOTBALL ON DECEMBER 16TH

As the crucial Christmas period swings into full flow the hopes and aspirations of many teams could be crushed or embellished in the space of four games in two weeks.
The biggest game of the night takes place at White Hart Lane where two teams with high aspirations of clinching fourth place battle it out. Both Tottenham and Manchester City suffered damning blows to their campaigns at the weekend but if either of them can take a victory here that will be quickly forgotten.
Man City are the leagues draw specialists and the win over Chelsea is the only anomaly on a list which reads as eight draws in nine games. The fact that they remain unbeaten in that period will be a positive for manager Mark Hughes but they will not gain a fourth place finish this season if they cannot convert those draws into wins.
Tottenham must also pick themselves up and dust themselves down after an uncharacteristic loss at home to struggling Wolves. It was their first defeat since October and it saw them drop out of the top four for the first time in ten weeks.
Tottenham are priced up as favourites for this one at 2.36 on Betfair, but that looks a little too short to me given that Man City have lost just once all season. A lay of Tottenham will be my main play of the night but if you’re feeling a little more adventurous then Man City can be backed at 3.35 whilst yet another draw is available at 3.5.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has today “guaranteed” a top four finish and if he is to stand by that pledge then they must surely beat Wigan at home tonight. However, that may not be such a simple task. Wigan have showed by beating Chelsea that they are a match for anyone on their day, but that 9-1 defeat to Tottenham proved that consistency is still their major downfall.
With Fernando Torres in the side we have come to expect goals from Liverpool and despite their inconsistency Wigan go into each game with a positive mindset. Therefore the Over 2.5 goals selection which is available at 1.8 on Betfair looks to be a wise choice for this game.
The other two Wednesday night fixtures are top of the table versus relegation contender encounters. Unfortunately for both Portsmouth and Burnley I cannot see anything other than a victory for the big boys here.
Arsenal must build on their victory over Liverpool at the weekend and Chelsea must atone for dropped points at home to Everton. Even with Arsenal as short as 1.5 I think they could be a value back but I couldn’t advise getting involved with Chelsea at the short price of 1.18.
One angle of attack that could be of interest in the Chelsea game could be to back the ‘Any Unquoted’ option in the Correct Score market. It is available at around the 3.5 mark and covers any score that is not quoted specifically in the market (i.e. either team scoring four or more goals).
One thing for certain is that we are in for another night of captivating action ahead of a hugely important two weeks in the Premier League.
