Birmingham City can increase misery for Fulham
- By Drew Swainston on November 26, 2010 10:03 GMTBirmingham City will want to carry on from their beating of Chelsea last time out when they travel to West London to face Fulham.
Not many people predicted the 1-0 win Alex McLeish's men recorded over Premier League leaders Chelsea last weekend. A goal from Lee Bowyer won the game, but it was the goalkeeping heroics of Ben Foster that stole all the headlines.
That win helped Birmingham climb above Fulham in the Premier League table and the side are in good form as they have lost only one of their last six matches in all competition.
Fulham sit on the brink of the bottom three and will be looking to prove something to their home fans after they were comprehensively beaten 4-1 by Manchester City at Craven Cottage last weekend.
They are regarded as the Premier League's draw specialists, having won only two games in their 14 league matches, and are 11/10 to win. But Birmingham City are still seeking their first win on the road all season – drawing four of their seven away games so far.
Wigan, the last team Fulham beat, can climb above the Cottagers and put them into the relegation zone if Birmingham are victorious on Saturday – and the form seems to be favouring the visitors and they are priced at 3/1 for the victory.
James McFadden and Craig Gardner are unavailable for McLeish but he is confident in the squad he has at St Andrews and has proclaimed the "phenomenal achievement" it was for Birmingham to draw with Man City at Eastlands and beat Chelsea in their last two games.
The bookmakers have Birmingham at 11/2 to be relegated this season, but after a slow start they are now building and gather some momentum, with their boss even pointing out he "genuinely" thinks they should have more points on the board.
If Fulham lose on Saturday and plunge into the Premier League bottom three then it become nail-biting time for their fans. With a poor record so far and a big injury crisis then 7/1 for them to go down could start looking a better and better possibility.
