BLACKBURN VS CHELSEA CARLING CUP TIPS
Chelsea are set to visit Blackburn today and are expected to breeze through this fixture with minimal fuss. UK bookmaker Ladbrokes has listed Chelsea at 1.44 while Blackburn sit a lengthy 7.5. The draw carries a 4.2 price and that’s good value, but the form that Chelsea are in and the relative shakiness of Blackburn Rovers put me off backing anybody but the Blues.
Blackburn Rovers seem like one of those teams that people forget about these days. They used to be one of the toughest draws in the Premier League under Mark Hughes, and while Big Sam's presence has only been disastrous for his coronary health, they don't seem to instill the same fear that they once did. They aren't the same without Santa Cruz and that's a fact.
The favoured outcome is either 1-0 or 2-0 Chelsea at 6.5. They’ve also priced a 1-1 draw at 6.5 but that’s absolutely ridiculous. I expect Chelsea to field a few young players, but there are so many experienced men on their team that need games, I don’t think we’ll see an Arsenal-style youth team take the field. I think that a 3-0 scoreline isn’t out of the question and the 10.0 odds are about right.
Chelsea are listed at evens to win both halves while draw/Chelsea sits at 4.5. Keep your eyes peeled for the starting line-up, if Drogba and Anelka are starting then back ‘em both to score anytime. Drogba’s odds are slim at 1.8, but he’s playing so well these past few weeks you can’t help but bet on him. Anelka trades at 2.0. Fabio Borini may make an appearance and he’s at 2.62- the same price as Frank Lampard. Gael Kakuta could also take the field and he is 4.09 to score anytime- the same price as Jason Roberts and Michael Ballack. Deco sits at 4.5, David Dunn at 4.33 and you’ll also find Michael Essien trading at 4.5.
If you’re looking to push on Chelsea stuffing Blackburn, why not try a half-time correct score of 2-0 at 8.5. Sam Allardyce’s men will be up for this one in front of their home fans, but I just think Chelsea have far too much quality. The Blues are a slim 1.66 to keep a clean sheet, but a very solid 2.2 to win to nil. That’s your tip here.
