BOOKMAKERS CUT ZENYATTA PRICE FOR 2010 BREEDERS CUP CLASSIC
Anybody who reads Betting Choice on a semi-regular basis knows that we’re big fans of Zenyatta (Street Cry) over here and, while she hasn’t really been a value bet for the better part of two and a half years, we have always done very well betting on the big mare from the left coast. After winning the Lady’s Secret Stakes (aka the Zenyatta Stakes) this weekend in a thrilling stretch drive under Mike Smith, Zenyatta has seen her price cut by virtually all major bookmakers- putting her ahead of Lookin At Lucky (Smart Strike).
As it currently stands, you can get a 7/2 price on the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic antepost markets with most major UK bookmakers but popular bookie Ladbrokes is boasting a hefty 5/1 price on Zenyatta so snap that one up while you can.
Lookin at Lucky won a decisive victory in the Indiana Derby but hasn’t seen his price clipped at all and he is still available at the 4/1 odds he was listed at before the weekend started.
Blame (Arch) is sort of stuck in a three-horse muddle that bounces between 5/1 and 8/1 with various prices at various bookmakers. The other two included in this one are Quality Road (Elusive Quality) and Haynesfield (Speightstown). Haynesfield blasted onto the scene following his confident victory over well-fancied Blame when sent off at a 15/2 price tag.
Some sites continue to list odds for Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia D’Oro) but she’s been retired so it would take something extremely special for her to wind up here. I wouldn’t take anything less than 100/1.
Fame and Glory (Montjeu) ran fifth in the Arc De Triomphe and he remains at a competitive 16/1 for the Breeders’ Cup Classic though he isn’t confirmed to run.
An interesting development is the fact that Ladbrokes now lists Morning Line (Tiznow) in the market for the Classic and it would really be something else if this up-and-coming Nick Zito 3 year-old had a go at this one. He just conquered the Pennsylvania Derby last week but may opt for a more winnable race.
Other contenders include Rail Trip (Jump Start) at 20/1, Rip Van Winkle (Galileo) at 20/1, Byword (Penitre Celebre) at 20/1. Last year’s runner up Twice Over (Observatory) is also competitively-priced at 20/1. Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver (Maria’s Mon) is priced at 25/1 while last year’s Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird (Birdstone) is priced at 33/1.
The odds for other major Breeders' Cup races have shuffled around as well so we'll be bring you previews of the premier races over the next few days.
