BOOKMAKERS LEAVE LINDSEY VONN’S ODDS UNCHANGED TO WIN 2010 OLYMPIC GOLD
The heavily-favoured American downhill skier Lindsey Vonn revealed to the media today that she intends to play through injury in her quest to deliver another gold medal in the Women’s Downhill Skiing at Vancouver’s 2010 Olympic Winter Games. With only a few days to go before the opening ceremonies, Vonn claims she has bruised her right shin during a training session in Austria in the previous week.
Lindsey Vonn has been absolutely dominant on the World Cup circuit this year, notching a total of nine victories. Vonn was expected to be one of America’s biggest locks for a string of gold medal performances and she may be missing practice sessions on Whistler mountain in the build-up to the event. Her first outing is going to be the Women’s Super Combined- where she faces very stiff competition and is currently listed as a second-favourite to German Maria Riesch.
Top UK bookmaker William Hill, in the light of the news about Vonn’s injury, has left her odds UNCHANGED for the upcoming Olympics. She remains the heavy even-money favourite to win the Women’s Downhill and is a close competitor in the aforementioned Super Combined at an 11/5 price. Linsey Vonn is also the favourite to win the Women’s Super G and can be backed at 6/5.
Punters looking to maximize their profits on the Olympics may do well to bet against Vonn who, because of her favourite status, has created inflated prices for a number of her two main challengers Maria Riesch and Anja Paerson. For instance, Riesch and Paerson are at 6/1 and 8/1 in the Women’s Downhill- compared to yesterday those look like great prices. The same two are at 2/1 and 9/2 in the Women’s Super Combined (Riesch as a slim favourite there). You’ll also find Paerson competitive at 7/1 with Riesch trading at 15/2 in the Women’s Super G. Knowing that the favourite is carrying an injury is a little extra fuel for online bettors looking to maximize their profits. I may end up eating my words when she comes out with three gold medals, but I think there’s some money to be made betting against Lindsey Vonn.
This also opens up the odds for a podium finish for some of the long-shot selections. You can check out the full assortment of 2010 Winter Olympics betting odds at William Hill!
