Boxing betting: Mayweather v Hatton
Floyd Mayweather is beginning to attract significant support to win his showdown fight against Ricky Hatton this weekend despite the American cancelling his training session on Monday which prompted rumours that the fight may be called off.Mayweather, for many the world's best pound-for-pound boxer, was due to train in front of the public on Monday but cancelled the session leading Hatton's camp to call round the media agencies for any news of a potential cancellation with the focus on Mayweather's supposed fragile hands. However Mayweather disputed the claim and repeated his vow to silence Hatton and his supporters when he takes on Hatton in the fight billed as Undefeated. "My hands are great and there will be no excuses," said Mayweather. "I feel tremendous and training camp went well for me. He'll (Hatton) fight his heart out, but he's got a weakness and on fight night I'll show you what it is. It won't go the distance." That view is enforced by punters who are piling into the American after showing initial interest in Hatton: "Ricky has been all the rage up until now as patriotic punters poured cash on him, and his odds went as low as 6/4, but now the fight is looming we are beginning to see serious support for Mayweather, who has shortened from 8/15 to 1/2," said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe. William Hill are predicting the fight, which takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday night, will become the first ever £10m betting turnover fight: "We have already taken a record pre-fight turnover, well into six figures, and all the indications are that the interest in this contest will produce a record-breaking turnover well into eight figures," said Sharpe. The result the bookies fear most at the moment is a Hatton knockout triumph, currently quoted at 4/1 by Hills. "Those fancying Ricky are backing him to win via a knockout," said Sharpe. "Those backing Mayweather are almost unanimously going for a points win for the American and, at 6/5, that would be our second biggest payout." Ricky Hatton is 3/1 to knock Mayweather down for a count and Mayweather is 9/4 to do vice versa with Hills offering 7/1 that the fight will see two or more knockdowns; 7/4 one and 4/7 none. Hills offer 8/13 that the fight will go the distance, 6/5 that it will not. Amir Khan is also in action this weekend and is 1/7 - the longest odds he has been in his professional career - to beat 4/1 chance Graham Earl this weekend, with the draw a 25/1 chance.
