BP OIL SPILL LATEST UK BETTING ODDS SHOW CEO TONY HAYWARD HEADING FOR THE EXIT DOOR
While some might call it crass to be wagering on the aftermath of the BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico, it’s certainly not stopping popular Irish bookmaker Paddy Power from listing odds on how things will ultimately pan out. While there is no over/under on total barrels spilled yet, you can still choose from a few interesting betting options if you’re looking to make cash from environmental chaos.
Much of the betting odds for the BP Oil Spill concern the CEO Tony Hayward and who will be his successor. As it currently stands, Tony Hayward is heading for the door if you believe the odds. In the “Will Tony Hayward be CEO on the 31st of December 2010” market, you’ll find “No” listed at 8/11 while “Yes” is priced out at even money.
There’s also an interesting market titled “First to leave or lose their job”. Tony Hayward is the front runner at 6/4 with BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg listed at a 2/1 price. Doug Suttles, BP’s Chief Operating Officer is also competitively-priced at 9/4. Mark my words that one of these three will have to fall on their sword in the face of what could be massive lawsuits. While the big short is already underway on BP, I think that things will go from bad to way worse for their executive board.
Should Clint Guidry, the secretary of the Lousiana Shrimp Association, leave his job before any of the BP executives do- you’re looking at a 12/1 payout. Lisa Jackson, administrator of the EPA, is priced at 14/1 to leave her job before any of the aforementioned contenders. Carol Browner, the White House energy adviser, is trading at 16/1 while President Barack Obama is listed at a lengthy 20/1.
I don’t think the BP Executives will outlast the Obama presidency.
The next CEO of British Petroleum is favoured to be Iain Conn at a 3/1 price while Sir John Browne is trading at 7/2. Peter Mather is sitting at 4/1 ahead of Andy Inglis, Doug Suttles and Robert Dudley who can all be backed at 5/1.
Should the BP spill have an irreversible affect on marine life in the Gulf Coast we could see certain species driven to extinction. Paddy Power has also listed odds on the first species to become extinct. Kemp’s Ridley Turtle is the odds-on favourite at a 4/5 margin while the Bluefin Tuna trades at 6/4. The odds then take a big jump to the Leatherback Sea Tutle and the Brown Pelican at 8/1. The Loggerhead Turtle is at 12/1 while the Sperm Whale trades at 16/1 alongside the Blue Whale.
