One of the biggest international match-ups on the global football circuit is Brazil vs Uruguay. While it may not carry the luster of Brazil vs Argentina on paper, you have to respect that this is a fixture full of emotion for both sides.

In the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup, you’ve got a very competitive match of football to be played, while at the same time there is a significant opportunity for Uruguay to get a result despite being the longshot selection here. 

The story for much of the contest has been all about Neymar. The latest acquisition for Barcelona looks every bit the international superstar after a string of excellent performances in front of goal. Neymar has been named as the man of the match for three of Brazil’s group stage matches and there is little sign that he’s going to be slowing down any time soon. 

Uruguay are priced at an impressive 15/2 by the bookmakers to get the victory against Brazil in the first 90 minutes of play. The prices for outright qualification are obviously shorter and you get the sense from looking at the odds that the bookmakers definitely don’t think overtime is out of the question here.

You reckon that there is every chance Uruguay can push things all the way if they can stay organized defensively. 

We all know what happens when Uruguay play in extra time in international tournament play-offs. At least Luis Suarez certainly does. 

Brazil are available at 4/11 and don’t exactly look an appealing wager from the outset. In fact, their outright qualification price is even less impressive with 1/7 being far too short - particularly if Uruguay open the scoring. Anybody backing Brazil pre-match would look quite foolish at that point.
