Britain's Next Chancellor of the Exchequer

With economic turmoil having almost decimated the country of Iceland, and UK Banks being nationalized and bailed out at a growing rate, many people are wondering whether their bank deposits are as secure as a northern rock. Well, maybe that's not the best way to put it?Irish bookmakers Paddy Power have put out a line in their UK Politics betting section outlining the favourites for whomever takes the reigns of the English economy. Currently held by fancy-pants Alistair Darling, the position could be viewed as a poisoned chalice for whomever steps up to the plate next. Ed Balls, schools secretary for the present government, is listed as the overall favourite at 11-8. Shadow Chancellor George Osbourne is also a prominent contender, listed at 15-8. Vince Cable (who could be part of a deal with the Lib Dems) and David Milband both weigh in at 3-1 and 5-1, respectively, while Jack Straw and Hillary Bend are viewed as the longer shots at 10-1 and 12-1.
