CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR RACE: JERRY BROWN ODDS DROP AS WHITMAN NOW A 2/1 LONGSHOT
The California Governors race is easily one of the most all-over-the-place contests in that state's political history and that's really saying something if you follow Californian politics.
The latest news coming out of California's race this week has been one of Brown's political aides openly calling Meg Whitman a whore and, of course, it was recorded on tape.
Hanna Rosin at Slate Magazine referred to the situation as "reverse double backflip conservative feminism" - take that for what you will, but you reckon it's difficult to find a more apt description for the latest development in this race.
We've been documenting the increasingly-interesting betting odds for this race as they've been unveiled by Irish bookmaker Paddy Power and they have, once again, cut Brown's price.
Jerry Brown's odds to beat Meg Whitman are now listed at a slim 1/3 with Paddy Power and that means that a $100 wager would pay out in the neighborhood of $133.33.
Meg Whitman is listed at 2/1 to become California's Next Governor and it looks like she will have to sway things pretty quickly because playing the sympathy card a la "he said bad things about me" isn't going to get anybody elected- especially when you're this far behind in momentum and endorsements.
Meg Whitman has sunk a huge amount of her own money into this campaign- essentially trying to pull a Michael Bloomberg. As the contest seems to be slipping away, you wonder whether Whitman may try to recoup costs by dropping a large punt on Brown at 1/3.
Victor Chandler prices Jerry Brown at 4/11 (just a shade better than the price at Paddy Power) and Whitman remains at 2/1. While we're on the topic of California political betting, Barbara Boxer is the heavy odds-on favourite to beat out Carly Fiorina. Boxer's odds trade at 1/3 while Fiorina is priced at 2/1.
Since Victor Chandler allows parlay betting on political wagers, we're suggesting a bet on Boxer x Brown in an all-California double. You can get a 1.82 ($100 returning $182) price meaning that you're still betting at odds-on but it has to be admitted that it's a great price on two hot favourites.
Looking to add a bit of extra value? Add another bet to your parlay and make it a treble of Brown x Boxer x Republicans take back the house at a 2.18 price.
