Chelsea, Atletico, Roma and Qarabag are the sides contesting Group C and, though Atletico have been real challengers in Europe for the past few seasons they will need to be at their absolute best in order to dispose of the quality that the English and Italian sides can show here in this Group.

Group D features Juventus, Barcelona, Olympiakos and Sporting Lisbon all in the mix and, though you obviously have to favour Juventus and Barcelona - we have seen in the past that Sporting Lisbon can put together a few great performances that can match most sides in Europe - particularly those that have an off game.

Taking a look at the outright odds to win the Champions League, you’ll find that Real Madrid are considered to be the favourite but not by a very distinct margin with most bookmakers floating them around a 4/1 listing right, with a few of them going as short as 7/2.

The odds then take a bit of a jump up to FC Barcelona who can be backed around a 7/1 margin with a number of top European bookmakers but you’ll also find that Bayern Munich trade at a very comparable price to them. It wouldn’t be a surprise to anybody if either of these two teams wound up contesting the final but the fact remains that Barcelona haven’t quite looked the deadly sharp side that they have been in years past.

Whether that has to do with half the team being indicted for tax problems or not remains to be seen.
