- By A.J. Ryder on July 25, 2016 17:43 GMTAt the time of this writing, punters will find the Catalan Club trading at a price as high as a 7/2 margin with a few bookmakers going into 10/3 and a few other floating them as low as a 3/1 margin with one even doing 11/4. They are the perennial favourites each year – mostly because they never seem to be lacking in firepower, but they did look a step slower than their opposition over a good portion of last year – particularly when we got down to the crunch periods of the tournament itself, Barcelona looked a day late and a buck short to many observers.
Priced as high as a 5/1 margin you will find the likes of Bayern Munich with more than a few bookmakers still listing them all the way down to a 4/1 margin though it's fairly clear that nobody has them on the exact same terms as Barcelona so they are a very clear and firm second place for this tournament.
There are definitely going to be some changes afoot at Bayern Munich but there will always be a new lineup of talented players ready to jump into the positions vacated by some of the departing superstars. It's worth appreciating how consistent this side is in virtually every position with a lot of strength in depth and a virtual guarantee that they will be making it all the way to the semi finals at least again this year.
One does have to wonder about the emergence of some of the other slightly lower profile clubs who remain difficult to play against since they deploy very dogged tactics against their oppostion – Atletico Madrid have been doing this for years. Porto did it for years prior to that. This time around it's very different competition but you can bank on their ability to push the other more established teams all the way.
Real Madrid have every chance of pulling off a unique double by securing back to back Champions Leagues if the bookmakers are to be believed. There is a lot to like about their chances and they can be backed as short as a 4/1 margin with several books – putting them on an even keep with their counterparts in Germany but failing to float as short as their Spanish rivals Barcelona.
Cristiano Ronaldo and the boys deserve a lot of credit for putting together the scintillating performance throughout the tournament that secured the Champions League title last year but they are already looking to reinforce with some new players before the kick off of the new campaign and we all know that means big things.
