Champions League Preview for Tuesday, November 2
- By Allan Pederson on November 1, 2010 17:17 GMTWe’ve got some first-rate Champions League fixtures ahead of us on Tuesday, and with a number of these groups getting to rather interesting stages you can expect some real drama in the closing moments of these must-win matches.
Rubin Kazan vs. Panathinaikos looks only a victory will do for either side, and if this is a draw then both teams will struggle to progress. The host side are the solid favourites at around 4/7 while the Greeks can be backed at 5/1. Don’t count on a high-scoring fixture here but be wary as this one may wind up a draw.
Tottenham vs. Inter is definitely the feature fixture of the day, and you expect Spurs to have a score to settle after nearly doing the improbable last time out on the back of a Gareth Bale masterclass. Spurs are the slightest of favourites at 13/8 while Inter can be backed at a 7/4 price. You’d reckon Spurs will be fired up for this one.
Werder Bremen look set to record a workmanlike victory over FC Twente and both teams will be hoping that Tottenham slip up as a victory here will propel either side into second place. Neither side here has done anything particularly impressive in this year’s edition of the Champions League.
Benfica vs. Lyon looks up in the air despite Lyon being undefeated in this year’s competition. In fact, the French side have only allowed one goal in three matches while Benfica have one victory and a negative goal difference. Great value on the French side at 5/2 right now.
Schalke are the away favourites against Hapoel Tel Aviv and you can back the Germans to topple the Israelis at 11/10. The host side trade at 5/2 and this one looks like a solid addition to any of your accumulator bets.
Manchester United travel to Bursaspor and the English side are the odds-on favourites for the win at 8/11 while the Turks can be backed at 4/1. Look for another livewire performance from Nani but it’s been noted that Rio Ferdinand is not included in the squad so it will be interesting to see how that affects things.
Valencia vs. Rangers looks set to be done-and-dusted from a bookmakers perspective. The Spanish side are at 2/5 while the Scots are at 7/1. This is a crucial match for both contenders who remain very much in the mix in Group C.
Barcelona take on FC Copenhagen in a match that might be a bit trickier than the Spanish world-beaters might initially assume. The Danes are sitting with six points just behind the Spanish side. You can get a slim 2/5 price on Barca away while Copenhagen trade at 7/1.
