Champions League Quarter Finals Latest Betting Update Pt 1

It looks as though there are some fascinating Champions League ties still left to be played out as the first leg of the quarter finals is now behind us. There were some really surprising results (United 1 - 1 Bayern Munich definitely being one of them) while there were some results that really didn’t surprise too many punters or neutral footballing observers.

The next leg of competition looks interesting with several teams still having it all to do and only one fixture really looking done and dusted at this point and that’s the Real Madrid - Borussia Dortmund match-up where Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale acted as the key figures (unsurprisingly). Now boasting a 3-0 advantage over their German counterparts, you’d have to say that Real look to be the in-form side right now in the Champions League.

The biggest surprise in the opening leg was definitely the performance of David Moyes’ misfiring Manchester United squad. While they are continuing to languish closer to mid-table than their usual spot near the top, this match really showcased the fact that the rot may not be quite as bad as many had suspected at United. The players, Fellaini aside, really did look like they cared about this one and even Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic were able to roll back the years a bit with their stellar defensive performance.

While Bastian Schweinsteiger’s strike definitely puts Bayern in control of things with the away goal heading back to Germany, it still serves as a moral victory that United are even in this still. There were many observers who are not the alarmist types who still thought that Bayern had every chance of putting 5 or 6 past United.

If David Moyes’ men had played like they did against City and high-flying Liverpool, that may very well have been the case but they were able to put Bayern to the sword and probably should be up by two goals at this point as well. The call on Danny Welbeck for the high-foot was very generous to Bayern Munich as the defender clearly moves his head towards the ball when he realizes Welbeck will get there first.
