Champions League Wednesday Betting Tips PT 1

It was a very interesting Tuesday of Champions League action as we got the group stages kicked off in a big way. There was plenty of drama and some real disappointment for the Manchester clubs – Luke Shaw in particular who now appears likely to miss several months of play with a double fracture in his leg. Manchester City were unable to get the best of Juventus at home in a 2-1 reverse and that is proof positive that, despite the clubs domination of the English Premier League, they still have a very long way to go when it comes to their owners ultimate goal of dominating European football via the Champions League.

United looked like they were starting things off properly against PSV Eindhoven but they lost the key moments of the match and also had one of their most promising players of the season sidelined until Christmas at least. It was especially troubling for Louis Van Gaal because it was a two-footed tackle in the 18 yard box that didn't even muster up as much as a yellow card from the officials – who most would agree were subpar throughout.

Memphis put together a decent strike but United simply didn't look fluent with a lot of disjointed football and the 75th minute introduction of Maourane Fellaini up front was so typical of United lately that we all knew they wouldn't grab the equalizer.

Looking at Wednesdays fixtures we have some really tasty-looking contests here with some solid money-making opportunities for the savvy punter. There are some fixtures today where you can tell the bookmakers have very little clue of just how things are going to shape up so the prices on offer are especially good.

Roma host Barcelona in the marquee match-up on Wednesday and the Catalan club go into the match as the 6/10 favourites despite being the away side. Lionel Messi & co have some very good quality players up front and in midfield so it will be very dangerous for Roma to move forward in significant numbers here. They would likely do better to sit back and try to hit Barcelona on the break while not committing too much to the attack – particularly at the outset.
