CHELSEA VS BLACKPOOL- BLUES TO ROMP HOME
Use all the fairytale analogies you like...this will not be a David vs. Goliath contest...this will be a one-sided Chelsea win-simple.
With Blackpool getting a taste of victory in the big time- downing Newcastle at St James Park last weekend-they will be looking to achieve the impossible by taking Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.
To the true football connoisseur, one has to travel all the way back to the 1976/77 season, where Blackpool drew 2-2 with the London club, to register the last time these two cubs met.
Fast forward to 2010 and the football landscape is entirely different. Chelsea are world beaters, and Blackpool are riding the cusp of qualification to the Premier league through a playoff scenario.
Chelsea are once again to be without key midfielder Frank Lampard, along with Jose Bosingwa. However, Ashley Cole is likely to be back after being rested mid week, with goal scoring behemoth Didier Drogba likely to run out ahead of Sturridge
Blackpool will once again make use of the ever impressive Gary Taylor-Fletcher who returns to fitness, with other first team stalwarts Marlon Harewood and Alex John Baptiste also returning off the back of injuries
This is a Men vs. Boys scenario. There is no real money to be made in result picks here, with Chelsea so heavily favoured at 1.11, to Blackpool's 21.0
The real question on everyone's mind is how heavily will Chelsea win?
The quality of this team is incredible with a 1-0 Chelsea win on William Hill at 12.0- dwarfing that of a 2-0 win at 8.0. Go even further to 3-0 and we are looking at 7.0
For the optimistic amongst you a 0-0 draw will see 23.0, with a 2-2 draw at 41!
For those that love a longshot- a 2-0 Blackpool win is set at 101...for those new to the betting breakdowns...your £2 bet will win you £202!
On the goalscoring end- for Chelsea it’s more a matter of 'whom', as opposed to 'if'. Of course Drogba is favourite at 1.3; with in-from Anelka at 1.73- both pretty much ‘sure things’
One would think that Essien will fight to get his name on the scoresheet, and at 2.87 he might be a great pick
For Blackpool, Varney and Campbell are a dead heat to score at 7.0, however again...for this side to break through a rock solid Chelsea defence will take something special
This is a champion pedigree Chelsea side, and one that will take some beating to challenge for the title. Blackpool have neither the talent, nor the chequebook to challenge a win at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea's squad is worth a staggering £333 million, while the Seasiders' team is rated at £24m- ess than the cost of Drogba alone!
Prediction: A 6-0 Chelsea win at 21.0!
