CHELSEA VS INTER MILAN 2ND LEG CHAMPIONS LEAGUE BETTING TIPS
Few managers are so synonymous with a club’s success that they are greeted with open arms upon their return in the opposition’s dugout. Jose Mourinho fits that description to a T. The period of success that Chelsea endured under his stewardship means that he is likely to receive a more audible round of applause than any other person in the stadium tonight, or perhaps any other night.
Mourinho will embrace the welcoming as only he can but you can be sure that as soon as the referee’s whistle sounds all niceties will be pushed firmly to one side. This is a huge game in many respects and was the pick of the round as soon as the draw was made, and then with the first-leg ending 2-1 it is perfectly poised ahead of the Stamford Bridge tie.
Chelsea are buoyed by the return of Ricardo Carvalho but must remain reliant on third-choice keeper Ross Turnbull as the last line of defence. Turnbull was pretty much faultless against West Ham at the weekend and could do nothing about the goal conceded, however Inter Milan’s forward line will provide a very different test tonight.
Mourinho was a master of stifling teams at Stamford Bridge and he will look to employ similar tactics tonight in order to defend his side’s slender lead. That should lead to a tight game, especially in the early stages, and makes the 2.0 on there being fewer than 2.5 goals looking like a good starting point for tonight’s betting. I also like the look of the 1-0 score line which is available at 7.4 (13/2) on Betfair and would suit Chelsea perfectly.
Chelsea are narrow favourites to qualify for the quarter-finals and you can back them at 1.8 (4/5) with Betfair whereas Inter are 2.2 (5/4) in the same market. In the match odds market it is 1.6 (5/8) for a home win and 4.3 (100/30) for the draw which would see the Italians progress.
The longer the game goes goalless the more anxious Carlo Ancelotti will become and at some stage he will have to throw caution to the wind. I expect plenty of fireworks tonight but they could come late on in the game.
