CHELSEA VS MANCHESTER CITY BETFAIR LAYING STRATEGY AND TIPS
The League Cup provided some respite for Mark Hughes as Man City reached their first domestic semi-final in some 28 years, now attentions must revert to a stuttering league campaign that has now produced seven consecutive draws.
Hughes couldn’t have asked for a more difficult assignment than the champions elect Chelsea, they have now lost the last eight meetings between the two sides and have failed to beat them since 2004. However, he should take solace from his players’ performances against the leagues other big teams.
It is indisputable that he has assembled a squad of big game players and as a result they have produced their best performances of the season against Arsenal and Man United this term. It is also worth considering Chelsea’s midweek penalty shoot-out defeat to Blackburn, although they can claim that the League Cup is far from their main priority it was the first time they have tasted defeat in over two months and it will be interesting to see how they react. At 1.95 in the Match Odds with Betfair I believe that Chelsea are a suitable laying opportunity.
Despite Chelsea’s dominance throughout this Premier League campaign they have only led at half time in 50% of their games. A lay of Chelsea/Chelsea in the HT/FT market at 3.5 looks to be a safer option if you do not wish to commit yourself to an outright lay in the Match Odds.
We have become accustomed to some goal feasts in the Premier League this season, and this game shouldn’t disappoint in that respect. Chelsea have yet to be involved in a 0-0 draw this season whilst Man City have only participated in one goalless stalemate. In addition there has only been one 0-0 draw in the last ten years in clashes between these two so a lay of 0-0 at 13.0 in the correct score market should be a safe bet.
So, if there are to be goals where will they come from? Didier Drogba is in scintillating form and is available at around the 2.2 mark to get his name on the score sheet, a price that I couldn’t put anyone off backing. However, the clubs second top goal scorer, Nicolas Anelka, is available at around the 2.7 mark in the same market and is a stand out lay for me having failed to score in Chelsea’s last six league games.
All in all this is an intriguing encounter with some important battles taking place across the pitch, and it could indeed prove to be a crucial game in the race for the Premier League title.
