CHELSEA VS. NEWCASTLE- CARLING CUP PREVIEW AND ODDS

Premiership Champions take on last year’s Championship winners this Wednesday, in what is shaping up to be one of the most exciting matchups of the week.
Chelsea has been utterly rampant this Premiership season destroying all opposition they come up against.
That coupled with the fact that they have dominated in Europe, going to Slovakia and hammering Slovak champions MSK Zilina 4-1, means that Carlo Ancelotti's men could not head into this clash more upbeat.
One thing that will come to mind for the Blues team however, is that the Carling Cup is a competition they haven't exactly excelled in the past, with the team  being on the end of a couple of shocks in recent years.
Ancelloti will most likely take a leaf out of Arsene Wenger's book in this clash by handing out starts to some of the players who have struggled to break into his side so far this season.
Many are under the assumption that Yuri Zhirkov is likely to be given the nod, whilst up and coming youngsters in the form of Gael Kakuta and Josh McEachran may be given more game time after cameo appearances off the bench thus far.
Newcastle have also had a decent start to their first season back in the Premiership and come into this clash off a hard fought 1-0 win at Everton over the weekend.
Add this to an impressive win over Aston Villa, and the stage begins to be set for a rather tense clash on Wednesday evening.
There are murmurs that the Premiership will be top priority for the Magpies, with Newcastle boss Hughton unlikely to be viewing this competition as the be-all and end-all.
That being said, he is expected to give run outs to some of his more fringe players, such as weekend hero Hatem Ben Arfa who scored a stunning goal at Goodison Park to seal the victory over Everton.
It is expected that the likes of Carroll, Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton and Mike Williamson who have been key so far to the progression thus far may sit this one out.
Plain and simple- this game will be won by Chelsea. Betfair offer the pick of the odds here with Chelsea at 1.29, to Newcastle at 13.5
Taking into account the fact that the Magpies have conceded at least twice in each of their last six Carling Cup matches, the odds on a 2-0 Blue win are at 8.0, with a 3-0 win at exactly the same.
For the underdog backers amongst you all, a Magpies win at 1-0 nets a massive 29, with a 3-0 win at 126.0!
All in all, this will very likely be a comfortable win for Chelsea; however one cannot underestimate the ability of a young team of second stringers looking to impress.
The Stamford Bridge faithful should be entertained come Wednesday night, hosting a proud team dead set on upsetting the big four.
