CHELSEA VS NEWCASTLE- NEWS, ODDS AND BETTING TIPS
Premiership champions Chelsea tackle last year’s Championship winners, and current Premiership contenders, Newcastle in what is shaping up to be an entertaining tussle.
With very few punters giving the Magpies even half a chance, their victory over Everton at the weekend has given the team a much needed confidence boost leading into this clash
With Carlo Ancelotti already stating that the Carling Cup ranks lowest on his list of priorities, many are feeling that the team might be in some form of complacency, and are therefore vulnerable.
However, while this makes for great gossip, Chelsea have been nothing short of epic this season so far, strolling through any test placed before them.
From a Chelsea perspective the team’s biggest headache ahead of this visit will be to decide the balance between youth, and the more experienced fringe players, who are eager to gain match action.
Didier Drogba has clearly stated his intentions on this trophy, underlining its importance in that it could help the club achieve unprecedented quadruple.
But again...they are not taking on the Magpie side that embarrassingly gave up their Premiership spot on a season ago. Newcastle have so far shown a blinding range of form, thrashing Aston Villa 6-0 and then beating Everton at Goodison Park, however losing at home to Blackpool.
Another crowd pleaser is going to be the return of Sol Campbell to action. He will be bolstering the Newcastle defence and certainly have his work cut out for him on the night.
Chris Hughton will undoubtedly be looking to use this opportunity to ensure that Newcastle don’t join the increasing list of clubs that head to Stamford Bridge, and leave with their tails between their legs.
Good intentions aside, sanity and statics prevail when looking at the odds to this clash.
William Hill is setting Chelsea as massive favourites at 1/10, while Newcastle is set at 11/2
With this clash assumed to be so one sided, there are some ridiculously one-sided odds locked in on scoreline odds.
A Chelsea win at 1-0 will see 8/1, with a more likely 3-1 set at 10/1.
For those who love a long shot, a Newcastle winning scoreline will see you licking your lips, with a 1-0 win at 25/1, and a 3-0 win at a ridiculous 125/1!
On paper this game should be an absolute breeze for the superstar-studded Blues line-up, yet one can’t help but feel that an old-school Magpie resurgence is not far off...
That being said...sanity must prevail
Prediction: Chelsea to win 3-1 at 10/1
