Chevely Park Stakes Betting Tips

The form of Sander Camillo's emphatic victory in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot couldn't have worked out much better, while she looked a class act when thrashing her rivals in the Cherry Hinton subsequently. Consequently, it's no surprise to see that she's favourite for the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket on Friday. However, quite whether the American-bred filly should be as short as evens for what looks a pretty competitive renewal of this Group 1 contest is open to debate. In my opinion, she's well worth taking on, especially with the going set to be riding on the soft side of good for this six-furlong dash on the Rowley Mile. Sander Camillo, whose trainer Jeremy Noseda won this with Wannabe Grand in 1998 and, most recently, with Carry On Katie in 2003, has an out and out fast-ground pedigree, and while she shaped with promise on an easy surface on her debut, there's no mistaking the fact that this filly relishes top of the ground. Indeed, her action is that of a fast-ground horse and conditions were quick when she won at the royal meeting and on the July course here last time. In complete contrast, French raider Magic America, a 9/2 chance with the sponsors Skybet, relishes give in the ground. She ran a cracking race against the colts when beaten a length into second behind Dutch Art in the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville on August 20, finishing ahead of some smart sorts, including the third-placed Excellent Art, who franked the form when winning the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes on his subsequent outing. Magic America's trainer, Criquette Head-Maarek, won this race in 1996 with Pas de Response, who was also placed in the Prix Morny en route to taking this. As such, Head-Maarek knows exactly what it takes to land this prize, and at the odds available she rates an excellent value option against Sander Camillo. Perhaps an even bigger danger to the selection that the favourite will turn out to be Indian Ink, who looked a filly going places when tearing a big field apart in the valuable Watership Down Stud Sales Stakes at Ascot last week, demonstrating her ability to handle plenty of cut in the ground in the process. She has looked an improved filly since encountering such conditions and she should once again have the measure of Scarlet Runner, who was held in fifth when Indian Ink was beaten half-a-length into second by Silk Blossom in the Lowther Stakes at August last month, form which was boosted by that winner who scooped a huge pot at The Curragh next time out. Silca Chiave has also had her form endorsed having narrowly failed to repel leading Irish filly and subsequent Goffs Million heroine Miss Beatrix in the Moyglare Stud Stakes. Mick Channon's charge hasn't encountered going this soft previously, but being by Pivotal it shouldn't be a problem for her, as that sire's progeny invariably love getting their toe in. Dhanyata needs to improve an awful lot strictly on the book, but her trainer Brian Meehan has won the last two renewals of this race with outsiders - Donna Blini at 12/1 last year and Magical Romance at 40s there year before - so it would be folly to ignore her. Vital Statistics and Wid, first and second respectively in the Listed Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes at Salisbury latest, look like decent fillies in the making. But the former appears better suited to a faster surface while the latter will be tackling an easy surface for the first time and is unlikely to appreciate it from what one can glean from her pedigree. The remaining quartet are all capable enough, although they have a fair bit to find with the principals. Verdict - 2pts Magic America @ 9/2 (Skybet)
