CRISTIANO RONALDO ROBINHO ANELKA OR AMR ZAKI PREMIERSHIP LEADING SCORER PREDICTIONS

The English Premier League is heading into the tricky winter fixtures and competition for the top scorer position looks set to be an epic battle over the next few weeks. Currently, Chelsea's Nicholas Anelka is the top scorer with 12 goals in the EPL this season. Cristiano Ronaldo, Robinho and Amr Zaki are all sharing 2nd spot- deadlocked at 8 goals apiece. This is really quite an interesting race for top-scorer with all four leading candidates considered slightly unlikely to win the Premier League golden boot. CRISTIANO RONALDOCristiano Ronaldo is last year's leading scorer in Europe and the Premier League and is considered by many to be the best current player in the world. While I think some would still dispute that, there really isn't much argument over whether he is the most exciting player in world football- he always puts on a show, one way or another. He was the bookmakers favourite going into the season to be the leading scorer, but after missing the majority of the opening fixtures due to injury, it was expected that Cristiano Ronaldo wouldn't be able to match his incredible goal tally from last year. Contrary to what pundits might have thought, CR7 has come out like a house on fire and is actually ahead of where he was last season at this point. ROBINHORobinho is the type of player who everybody knows is quality, but weren't sure whether he would acclimatize to the Premier League quickly enough to suit the tastes of Manchester City's ownership. While he put in some iffy performances early on, followed by a couple of barn-burners all discussion of his quality was put to bed following his incredible strike in his team's 3-0 demolition of Arsenal. I would say that's a definite contender for goal of the year. Top 5 stuff. It is generally acknowledged that if Chelsea would have purchased Robinho it would have been a stroll to the Premier League title. AMR ZAKIAmr Zaki is really this season's breakout star. Once in a while, it comes along that a player from the footballing wilderness (namely Egypt) arrives on the big stage with a small team and really puts his footprint on the season. In the 2008/9 season that man is Amr Zaki. Currently on loan from Egyptian side Zamalek, he looks to be the find of the season and his value is probably in the low 8 figures at this point. Many pundits point to Zaki's physical make-up, combined with his keen eye for goal, as one of the main reasons behind his success. In fact, many people believe one of the key reasons for his overall ability are his similar proportions to Premier League legend Alan Shearer. Both have a big physique, an intimidating style and a never-say-die attitude. Amr Zaki is looking like somebody who will be playing at the highest level for years to come. NICHOLAS ANELKANicholas Anelka is a goalscorers goalscorer. He is considered an underwhelming player and he generally doesn't make a big show of himself and dominate games, however he is deadly with the ball at his feet. Over the course of his career, Anelka has earned the title of "Most expensive player in world football" as he has been bought and sold so many times over for so much money. From Arsenal to Real Madrid to Paris St Germain to Liverpool to Man City to Fehnerbache to Bolton and now finally at Chelsea, he has endured mixed success at each of his clubs. One of the more remarkable scenes he was involved in was missing the deciding penalty kick in the Champions League final shoot-out. I expect him to score somewhat consistently over the remainder of the season, but he will need to stay healthy. A spell on the sidelines could very well derail his quest for the golden boot.
