CRISTIANO RONALDO SET FOR BALLON D'OR ALSO FAVOURITE FOR PFA PLAYER OF THE YEAR
With bookmakers and football pundits alike backing Cristiano Ronaldo as the out-and-out favourite to secure this year's Ballon D'Or award for his footballing bravery and exemplary skill shown over the past year, a number of popular bookmakers have slashed odds on Cristiano Ronaldo securing the PFA Player of the Year Award. As of this writing, CR7 is backed at 2.93 on Betfair to take the title and it is difficult to see where the competition will actually come from. Currently, Frank Lampard is the only other player close to Ronaldo in terms of odds. Lampard is listed at 5.7- nearly double what Ronaldo's odds are. Chelsea's top man John Terry is listed at a distant 28 with a few stragglers running in the low teens or high single digits. Fernando Torres, Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard all look like they're still in the hunt for this one with odds listed at 11, 11.5 and 9.6, respectively. Much will depend on which team ultimately wins the title, as an unlikely Liverpool Premier League title would likely bring the accolade to Torres or perhaps Stevie G, depending on his goalscoring ratio. If Torres can propel them to the title, he will be a shoe-in, but at this stage in the betting too much can happen. If you're looking to bet on PFA Player of the Year, I would say wait until after the Christmas fixtures to see where the teams are sitting. Remember, a long-term injury can quickly force a re-shuffle of this entire list.
