CSKA Moscow v Chelsea Preview Live ITV1 17.30pm
It's going to be cold tonight in Moscow??just below freezing in fact, so we hope that the Chelsea nancy boys have packed their gloves. But joking apart, going to Moscow and getting a result is always difficult. Chelsea have never played a Russian team in Russia and it's how they cope with the conditions that will be crucial to the outcome. At Stan James we bet CSKA Moscow??2/1, The Draw?..9/4, Chelsea??11/10. Chelsea already have secured their spot in the next phase, so they are under no pressure to win. It's a case of?.let's do a job and get outta there. So what sort of job can we expect Chelsea to do tonight. On the face of it they would be happy with a draw. At 9/4 this is excellent value. But in Chelsea's favour is the fact that they have a full squad to choose from, and after the convincing win over the Moscowvites at Stamford Bridge they certainly won't fear them. But at 11/10 the price seems a little on the skinny side. One factor is the Abramovich link?..he might just want to show his home town how he's getting on without them! CSKA Moscow are also seasoned campaigners in Europe. True?.they have done nothing particularly special?.but they, like Rosenborg say, have a durability and touch of experience which Chelsea shouldn't underestimate. They have also won their last three home matches in Europe and have scored in their last five. So they are no mugs on their own soil. If Chelsea concede an early goal, the pressure will be on and let's face it they can afford to lose this one. They won't want to?.but it wouldn't be the end of the world if they did. But we suspect that Mourinho will be too clever for the Russians, and he'll have too much up his sleeve. An interesting bet is CSKA leading half time?.Chelsea winning at full time?a very tasty 28/1. The Russians will come out guns blazing but Chelsea's class will begin to tell later. Kezman scoring last week is also significant. He could have a run of goals now??.and he's 13/8 to score at anytime. It's one of those difficult games to call. If Chelsea turn up, they can win this but CSKA have to win and they will use the conditions to their advantage. The safest bet is probably the draw. It's live on ITV at tea time, so put the central heating on and check out all the odds at www.stanjames.com , and we'll be betting In-Running up until the 85th minute.
