DAVID CAMERON CONFIRMED FOR NEXT PRIME MINISTER BY UK BOOKMAKERS
This looks to be it for Labour’s hopes to remain in power as the BBC “understands” that talks between the Lib Dems and the soon-to-be-led-by-David-Miliband Labour Party have completely derailed- leaving David Cameron as next Prime Minister.
Popular Irish bookmaker Paddy Power is still accepting bets on the Next Prime Minister, as well as various other markets, but they have just slashed David Cameron’s price to a slim 1/66 to be named Next Prime Minister after Gordon Brown. \
You’ll find that David Miliband is considered the second favourite to be the next Prime Minister, but that’s a very lengthy 12/1 price. It would basically take another flip-flop from Nick Clegg’s Lib Dems to give Labour a shot at retaining the Prime Ministers Status. Methinks Nick Clegg has his eye on the Deputy PM spot at the moment.
Alan Johnson is at 16/1 to be the next Prime Minister while Peter Mandelson trades at 18/1. Harriet Harman is listed at 20/1 while Nick Clegg himself is trading at a 100/1 price.
As it currently stands, we look to be odds-on for another election this year and that could throw the betting markets for another loop. Should the next General Election be called in 2010, you’ll be getting paid out at even money. A 2011 election rewards at 6/4 and obviously doesn’t look out of the question. An election in 2012 pays out at an 8/1 margin.
David Miliband remains short-priced to be named as next Labour leader with an 8/15 price after seeing some pretty massive fluctuations yesterday. Ed Balls is now second favourite alongside Alan Johnson at a 7/1 price.
It looks like we may be getting some closure on who’s going to lead the government at this point and it appears as though the Conservatives have agreed to tackle electoral reform at some point in order to save their chances of forming a government. Clegg will likely use this as the nuclear option to break the coalition and force another election if he doesn’t feel his demands are being met.
