DAVID MOYES STAYING AT EVERTON ACCORDING TO NEXT ASTON VILLA MANAGER ODDS
If the open betting market at Betfair is anything to be believed, the rumours that David Moyes was the favourite for the Next Aston Villa manager job have been effectively disproven. Numerous media reports yesterday quoted David Moyes sharp drop in the Betfair market as an indication he might be poised to leave the misfiring Toffees and take over the vacant position at Villa Park.
Rest easy Everton fans. Moyes odds have doubled since yesterday and you can now find him trading at around a 12.5 price tag to finalize a move to Aston Villa.
At this point yesterday, it was looking like Sven Goran Eriksson and current caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald were deadlocked for the favourites position. All that has changed as well. You can now find MacDonald trading around 2.86 while Eriksson's odds have remain at the 5.8 he was trading at yesterday.
It appears as though MacDonald is firmly on the drop today and we will be seeing him take up the bulk of the volume. I think it's related to the transfer window deadlings indicating that everything is pretty much just coasting along at Villa.
I think the insistence by the Villa management that they would be seeking an experienced manager ruled out a huge amount of the current betting favourites, Eriksson aside I guess. The fact that Sven has offered to reduce his hefty wage demands is probably what's keeping him in the frame.
Additionally, I think the short price on MacDonald might have to do with the fact that punters think that Villa will turn things around and grind out some good results over their next few fixtures. If the Villains are sitting comfortably in upper mid-table then I think MacDonald's job is safe for now.
Gerard Houllier is priced at 15.5 with Alan Curbishley at 19.5. Bob Bradley was the former favourites but is now priced at 150.0 while Diego Maradona is trading at 200.0.
