DAVID VILLA, LEO MESSI AND WAYNE ROONEY FAVOURED AS WORLD CUP 2010 TOP GOALSCORER
It looks like a real cracker of a tournament with the 2010 World Cup just a week and a half away. The betting action is coming in thick and fast with European bookmakers revealing new odds all the time as get closer and closer to the big kick-off on June 11th when South Africa take on Mexico.
One of the biggest pre-tournament betting markets is always the Top Goalscorer wagering. This year, we have a clear favourite with about 10 or so genuine contenders. It may not be a spectacular surprise to everybody that David Villa looks like the man to beat. Of course, that’s based heavily on the assumption that Spain will likely win the tournament and win it with considerable style.
David Villa’s odds to be top goalscorer at the 2010 World Cup are trading at around 8/1 with popular Irish bookmaker Paddy Power. You’ll find his Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi trading at 10/1 while England’s talisman Wayne Rooney can be backed at an 11/1 price tag.
Brazil’s Luis Fabiano is a solid bet at 12/1- Brazil always do well at these types of things, while Liverpool’s Fernando Torres can be backed at a 13/1 margin. Holland’s Robin Van Persie is a bit overlaid in my opinion and he’s trading at 16/1. Gonzalo Higuain from Argentina is available at an 18/1 price.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s odds to high-roll the 2010 World Cup are a plausible 20/1 and the Portuguese striker/winger will likely be pretty jazzed up about this one- knowing that an immense tournament will help enrich his personal brand even further. Diego Milito is trading at 28/1.
Didier Drogba is the big outside bet here, in my opinion. You’ll find the big Drog at a 33/1 price to score more goals than anyone else and I am confident that if the Ivory Coast get out of their group that hey have just as good a chance as anybody. African sides can be undone by their mediocre goalkeeping and I think Drogba knows this. His team will be looking to win matches 4-3 as opposed to eeking out 1-0 wins. I think this plays to his advantage.
There are odds on dozens and dozens of possible contenders over at Paddy Power and you know that a hat-trick scored by a random player can turn everything upside down. There are odds out there as high as 300/1 and also remember that you can get in on the each-way betting with 1/4 odds on places 1-5.
