Djokovic Takes on Ginepri for a Sport in the Quarters
- By Nila A on May 31, 2010 16:58 GMTNovak Djokovic is the so-called dark horse of the French Open, unassumingly negotiating his way through the draw to reach the last 16.
He is just two victories away from a potential meeting with Nadal in the semis, what would be an attention-worthy clash.
That is not forthcoming yet. There is the small matter of this round and the next, the quarters, to contend with beforehand. And standing in his way is Robby Ginepri, surprisingly.
Ginepri took out Juan Carlos Ferrero in the third round to confirm his place opposite the Serbian.
True, Ginepri benefited from a sweet section of the draw to reach the last 16 but is that reason to underestimate him in this match. I happen to think he could give Djokovic something to think about, especially when the Serbian hasn’t been entirely convincing on his course.
Where Djokovic is concerned, the favouritism extends to set betting markets. Djokovic is offered at 4/7 to win in straight sets and at 11/4 and 9/1 to win in three or four sets, respectively.
Set Betting markets on Ginepri are rather large. Ginepri to win in three sets is a whopping 28/1 while to win 3-1 or 3-2 is trading at 16/1 and 10/1.
Number of sets in the match, irrespective of the winner, favours a three set affair at 8/15. However, four sets is a tempting 21/10 bet and the way Ginepri has been tearing up a storm in Paris it is very likely he will give Djokovic something to think about. A five setter is going for 10/1 to Ginepri.
