Durham Pensioner wins on £142,590 on the dogs for a £7 stake

A Coral betting shop punter in his seventies from Chester-Le-Street, Durham has won £142,590 pounds for just a £7 pound bet after picking the winners of eight greyhound races. The elderly man, who wishes to remain anonymous, is no longer able to place his daily bet himself and his daughter-in-law now puts his bets on and this morning collected the six figure cheque. Coral Spokesman, Simon Clare, said today, "This man has been betting with Coral for over forty years, ever since betting shops were legalised in 1961, but has never won more than £100 pounds before.""His achievement in picking the winners of eight greyhound races is nothing short of phenomenal and is like predicting where lightning is going to strike. The accumulative odds of backing all eight winning greyhounds were 141,749 to 1", added Clare. The winning punter's bet included a £1 pound accumulator on eight greyhounds who ran at Swindon and Monmore, which netted the lion's share of the winnings, two £1 pound fourfold accumulators on the first four greyhounds and the last four greyhounds respectively, and four £1 pound doubles on the greyhounds in race order. The total stake for the bet was £7 pounds and, according to Coral's betting shop manager of the Chester-le-Street branch, is the same bet he has placed every day with Coral for over a decade."The daughter-in-law has told us that her father-in-law intends to share out the winnings amongst his whole family rather than let it gather dust in his bank account so there will be a lot of happy people touched by his fantastic punting success", concluded Clare.
