ENGLAND VS ALGERIA LATEST ODDS AND BETTING UPDATE
There's still a few question marks over the starting line-up for today's England vs Algeria match and that's going to keep the betting markets up in the air for the next hour or so. Look for the England teamsheet to hit the BBC in about an hour and a half.
From what we're hearing over here, England have confirmed that David James will be starting in goal against Algeria. Additionally, Jamie Carragher is supposedly set to start in lieu of Ledley King and I think that some people may be a bit nervous about Carra's lack of pace. That one will definitely please the Liverpool fans though.
Gareth Barry will surely be parachuted into James Milner's spot and I think that he could be the key to the whole operation here. If he can hold the midfield and keep Algeria from setting themselves up properly, then this will also allow Lampard and Gerrard to get forward and score goals aplenty, or at least get some better service to Wayne Rooney.
The big whisper is that Jermain Defoe will be preferred to Emile Heskey and I actually think that's the right type of approach here. Heskey is better when he's not expected to get goals and to just bring other players into the action while holding up the ball.
Jermain Defoe will allow Rooney to drop a little deeper and pull some of the strings without having to worry about Heskey getting the best chances.
Blue Square prices England at a 2/9 margin to win the match while Algeria are a lengthy 13/1. The draw pays out at 6/1 but I think there's only one result today. We got the draws and upsets out of the way and I think that England will hopefully stroll this one.
Wayne Rooney's odds to score a goal are 4/6 and he's 6/1 to score in both halves. Wayne Rooney's odds to get a hat-trick are listed at 12/1.
Steven Gerrard's price has been raised to even money to score an anytime goal while Frank Lampard is also trading at even money- up from his 10/11 price tag. Emile Heskey continues to trade at 11/8. You'll find Jermain Defoe at even money as well.
I think that we should see a much improved performance from England- they know that anything less than the win is an utter disaster.
