ENGLAND VS ALGERIA PREDICTIONS AND FULL WORLD CUP BETTING PREVIEW
We're just a few hours away from kick-off in today's most widely-anticipated World Cup match. It's turned out to be quite a day today as the Serbians upset high-flying Germany and then Slovenia and the United States battled it out in one of the best matches of the tournament.
What we're looking for now is a chance for the English team to exercise the demons of their disapointing draw with the United States and get a decent haul of goals from this one. I think that Group C is looking quite odd at the moment with Slovenia topping the group. England should put a few past Algeria to start settling things down a bit.
Personally, I would rather that England start a bit slower in the tournament. A draw in the last match is a lot better than a draw in the quarter-finals and I think that the draw to the USA has given England the tactical shuffle they needed. Again, I would much rather they had a disappointing first match than breezing through the group stages and getting stuffed in the knockout phase against somebody like South Korea.
You'll find England's odds to beat Algeria trading at a 1.25 price and that's about right in my opinion. I don't see too much value in backing the outright market and the only way you're going to get a decent price on England is in the in-play markets if Algeria somehow open the scoring.
The Algerians odds to beat England today trade at a very lengthy 13.0 with popular UK bookmaker Ladbrokes. The draw is priced at 6.0 but I wouldn't go there as all that matters for England is the win.
Look for Wayne Rooney to operate just behind strike partner Jermain Defoe. I think that one of the biggest problems with the first match was that Rooney spend three-quarters of the game in midfield and Emile Heskey wound up getting the better chances because he was actually playing in the strikers position.
I think a player of Defoe's caliber should be able to put a goal or two past Algeria and you may prefer to opt for the Spurs player to score the bulk of the goals over Rooney- who will attract more attention from the defenders.
I'm confident that the Algerians will try to wind up Wayne Rooney, but I think he's mature enough to handle it this time out.
My prediction: England in a 4-0 rout with goals from Defoe x 2 (2.75), Lampard (2.75) and Rooney (1.66). If you're looking for an intense bet, try Wayne Rooney to score a hat trick at 12.0.
