England vs Argentina Betting Preview
PLAY YOUR CARDS RIGHT There is a danger that we may actually be treated to a decent International friendly on Saturday afternoon, when England play Argentina. The match is in Geneva, which is rather appropriate considering the two nations involved. Whoever is selected on either side, the early indications are that despite the fixture being labelled as a friendly, this may prove anything but. Gabriel Milito has already been reported as stating his intention to wind up Wayne Rooney. David Beckham has also had a few words to say in the build-up stating there is no such thing as a friendly against Argentina. Staying with the England skipper and Milito also said he wouldn't be surprised to see Beckham involved in more Argentina related incidents. The Real Madrid player has had his fair share of incident with Argentinian players while playing in La Liga. Although England's greatest nemesis over the past few years, Diego Simeone is no longer part of the International scene, there are still a number of players who won't be shy of winding up the English players. Even though there is little riding on Saturday's "friendly" but pride, there does seem to be a strong possibility of a fairly physical game. Based on the assumption, the bookings market on the spreads pitched at 23-26 does hold some appeal. A look at the previous six friendly Internationals involving England, and the average bookings make-up has been a shade under 20. Furthermore, in the previous friendly for Argentina against Hungary, they had a man sent off. Considering the average make-up of the previous England friendly Internationals, the opposition are Argentina, buying the books could show a decent profit with little risk. As for the actual result of the match, there is a strong temptation to back the draw. Matches between England and Argentina have often been close affairs, and more of the same wouldn't be too surprising this time. That said with both managers likely to make a few alterations before and during the game, any result could be possible. What does hold more appeal is to back Frank Lampard to score the first goal. Already near the top of the Premiership charts, the midfielder was a frequent scorer in the recent World Cup qualifying campaign. Given his recent record for both club and country, the 9/1 on offer from Sporting Odds does look a little generous. There is also the added bonus that Frank Lampard is first choice penalty taker.
