ENGLAND VS AUSTRALIA ICC WORLD TWENTY20 FINAL BETTING TIPS
Australia completed one of the most memorable and jaw-dropping run chases in the history of Twenty20 cricket to book their place in Sunday’s final against England. As Pakistan posted 191 off their 20 overs and then Australia continued to lose wickets at regular intervals in the chase the bookmakers had already begun to price up an England versus Pakistan final.
But that was to underestimate the capabilities of Mr Crciket himself; Michael Hussey. As he came to the crease Australia required 87 runs from 7 overs with just five wickets in hand, then once the big hitting Cameron White went for 43 the task ahead was looking even more daunting. It came down to an equation of 18 required off the final over; Hussey got them, and some, with a ball to spare. Unbelievable seems to be the only word to describe his innings.
England had already travelled to Barbados by this time and will have been looking on in awe and amazement much like the rest of us. But unlike us humble spectators, they must find the answers to the many questions posed. How do you contain such a potent batting line-up that bats all the way down to 9? When is posting a big score big enough? And most importantly of all, just how do you beat the Aussies?
But Australia will also have to find the answers to some perplexing questions. Kevin Pietersen is now back to his very best, Eoin Morgan’s innovation can be devastating at times and no team throughout this tournament have been able to get Graeme Swann and Michael Yardy away for many runs.
Australia are 1.6 (8/13) on Betfair to win this match and the Twenty20 World Cup, with England at 2.6 (13/8). For those who like to trade in-play there is a good chance that those prices will turn more in favour of England at some point – Australia were backed at odds of 100/1 in that epic run chase –and so backing them from the outset could be a good starting point.
Either Pietersen or Morgan have top scored for England in every match of this Twenty20 World Cup and there is no reason to suggest why that might change for the final. Backing them both to even stakes with Victor Chandler at 3/1 and 5/1 respectively has proved a winning formula so far and can be so again today.
For Australia it really is a case of take your pick. Mike Hussey, David Hussey and Cameron White are all available at around the 6/1 mark with various bookmakers and look to be the value bets, but there is just no telling which one of them will be the most devastating.
Although Pakistan’s effort in the semi-final was valiant, this is the final that the tournament deserves. The two best teams of the tournament, by far, now go head to head for the right to be crowned Twenty20 World champions. It should be a classic.
