England vs Germany Friendly Betting Preview

The big friendly match is just about to kick off as we have England playing their arch-rivals Germany at Wembley today. England aren’t used to being underdogs at home, but the bookmakers certainly seem to fancy the Germans, who got the better of England in their last fixture. It came at the last World Cup where the English were soundly beaten by a 4-1 margin, that perhaps would have been different if Frank Lampard’s “goal” that was two feet inside the net had have been counted by the referees.

England will always wonder “what if” but they simply didn’t have what it took to make things work in the second half as they sank out of the game relatively quickly.

They will be trying to avenge things here but you get the feeling that many observers clearly believe that the English are over-matched. Punters will find the Germans trading at an 8/5 margin while the English can be backed at a 15/8 price tag. The draw is an interesting option here and is perhaps a bit more plausible than some others would give it credit for. It trades at a straight 2/1 and could be an interesting selection, particularly in-play with the cash-out option available.

It was only twelve years ago that England recorded their famous 5-1 victory with Michael Owen playing one of the best games of his career. Expect Wayne Rooney to be fired up for this fixture, but also expect a more composed performance from Adam Lallana. As a bit of an unknown quantity to most of the German side, he will be able to operate a bit more independently and he is likely to be dispatched just behind Rooney and Daniel Sturridge.

Wazza is the favourite to score for England and he’s priced at a 7/4 listing to grab an anytime goal. He is 6/1 to score first or last and he is likely to play the entire match, particularly if it’s close. Expect things to get a bit nippy at times and expect Rooney to throw himself into things early on.

Steven Gerrard is also worth keeping your eye on and he’s priced out at around 7/2 for an anytime goal and remember that he will likely take penalties for the English side if they get the opportunity.
