England vs Slovenia Betting Tips PT 1

After breaking news that Wayne Rooney has been dropped for Tuesday's England fixture against Slovenia, this represents a whole new era in the England side as the Three Lions line up without their chosen captain for the first time in quite a while. There is still a whole lot to like about England's chances here and it has to be acknowledged that they might wind up playing a lot better when shorn of Rooney's presence in attack or midfield or tracking back to pick up the ball where the central defenders should be.

Rooney has spoken to the media and gone on record as saying he is now in a difficult period and there is a lot to reflect on, despite the manager Gareth Southgate declaring that the selection was tactical and not any reflection of Rooney's playing ability or (lack of) recent form.

You will see Rooney on the bench, however, and he has not been dropped completely but it's obviously worth remembering that this is the first time that he has not been selected despite the fact that he was fit to play.

England go into the contest with the bookmakers considering them the outright favourites to get the victory against Slovenia but they are hardly considered to be an absolute sure thing. Right now, you will find a listing of about 4/6 on them to secure a victory against the visitors here. The draw is available at a 13/5 margin with the vast majority of bookmakers and that's not a completely unplausible outcome.

The Slovenians probably might fancy their chances a litle bit at 5/1 – particularly if England play the way that they did during the second half of their contest against Malta at the weekend. They opened up pretty well in the first half but then it was one step forward and one step back for the vast majority of the second half.
