ENGLAND VS SOUTH AFRICA 4TH TEST AT WANDERERS BETTING TIPS
Well, who would have thought it? England go into the fourth and final test in South Africa with an unassailable 1-0 lead in the series, two dogged draws and a comprehensive win have put them in the driving seat and now they must finish the job in Johannesburg.
Despite being unable to lose the series it is comforting to hear the England players talk of their desire to go all out and win the final match to secure the series victory. In times gone by it would not have been uncommon for there to be an air f silence coming from the dressing room in this type of situation.
Naturally South Africa will also be going all out for the win and to back that up it appears that they have ordered a grassy wicket for the Jo’burg pitch. In theory that should rule out the draw and with it priced at 3.0 on Betfair I would say that it is a good price to lay, especially as Graeme Smith and his team must throw caution to the wind, this is an all or nothing situation for them.
So, with the draw seemingly out of the equation the question is whether to side with the hosts or the tourists. South Africa can be backed at 2.5 on Betfair whilst England are available at 3.7 and to me that is a no-brainer. There should not be such a gulf in price between the two nations, England are high in confidence and in good form, whereas the South Africans have admittedly been distraught by not being able to take the crucial 20th wicket on two occasions this series. Back England here at the 3.7 available for a very good value bet.
As ever, there is an array of peripheral markets available to bet on for this match. Last week’s match savers were Paul Collingwood and Ian Bell and if you think they will pick up where they left off then you can back them to get a first innings 50 at 2.9 and 2.8 respectively. And in a battle of the captains it is effectively 2.0 the pair on who will get the most runs, Andrew Strauss made a brilliant 147 when England won here in 2005 and could be the one to back in this match bet.
A final word on the test series winner market where England are available to be backed at 1.65, if unlike me you think that the draw may have a part to play in the outcome of this match then this looks the safest place to deposit your cash. Whatever happens, with the England team’s inclination to never do things the easy way, it promises to be a thrilling Test match with some edge of the seat action. Buckle up cricket fans; it could be a bumpy ride!
