ENGLAND VS SOUTH AFRICA 5TH ODI BETTING ODDS
Andrew Strauss can really pull off a dramatic coup for England if they manage to secure a victory today- a victory that would mean England have beaten in-form South Africa over a One-Day Series. This could be one of the most pivotal England matches for quite some time and would do a huge amount to make sure that England end their Ashes-winning year on one of the highest possible notes.
Bet365 has listed several very interesting odds on this massive fixture and England still look like they have it all to do as the Proteas are listed at 8/13 for the outright win against England’s 13/10. The bookies are expecting big performances from AB de Villiers and Graeme Smith who are listed at 10/1 and 9/1 for the Man of the Match award. Johnathan Trott, Andrew Strauss and Kevin Pietersen are England’s favourites- all listed at 11/1.
Smith and de Villiers are the favourites to score the most runs for the Saffers with a 10/3 price each. Herschelle Gibbs and Hashim Amla both trade at 4/1 while JP Duminy is well-priced at 5/1. He hasn’t quite hit his fluent best in this series, but I think he’s more than capable and is a stellar value play.
Strauss and Trott are the go-to players for the English at a 10/3 listing. Pietersen trades at 7/2 while Paul Collingwood, Alistair Cook and Joe Denly can all be backed at 5/1.
Bet365 have listed match betting odds for batsman with Strauss facing off against Trott, Strauss facing off against Smith and Smith facing off against de Villiers. All players can be backed at a 5/6 margin.
Paul Collingwood has been an absolute beast since landing on South African shores and they seem to think he’s going to get the most runs out of anybody with his over/under at 47. For a bit of comparison, Strauss is at a mere 31 while Stuart Broad is at 40. I’d take the under on Broad and the over on Strauss and Colly.
If England are going to take this one, they need a good total from the openers and a competitive run-rate of at last 7. They’ll be looking to bat first if the conditions are right and they will need the seamers, Jimmy Anderson especially, to make a big step up here to finish off this dramatic series.
