ENGLAND VS SOUTH AFRICA ICC WORLD TWENTY20 BETTING TIPS
England got off to the perfect start in the Super Eights when comfortably beating Pakistan by six wickets. That was in fact England’s first fully completed match after the weather wreaked havoc on their opening group games in Guyana against West Indies and Ireland, and was thus the first opportunity to look at the England team’s credentials en masse.
To say that they passed the test with flying colours would be a little naive. A number of dropped catches from Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal meant that it could have been a completely different story all together and I think it is also fair to say that neither Tim Bresnan nor Ryan Sidebottom looked the part of a world class Twenty20 pace bowler.
On the flip side, Kevin Pietersen looked to be back to his brilliant best with a superb 73 from 52 balls, Michael Yardy and Graeme Swann combined to produce a fearful spin attack and Michael Lumb and Craig Kieswetter provided the attacking opening that England have consistently lacked in this format of the game.
The win means that England have one foot in the semi-finals but are also likely to need to beat either New Zealand or South Africa to confirm that position. And a game against The Proteas provides an entirely different proposition to the notoriously erratic Pakistan.
South Africa got their own Super Eights campaign underway with an extremely impressive 13 run victory over a dogged New Zealand. Albie Morkel was the deserved man of the match recipient after he blasted his side into a commanding position with 40 runs from 18 balls, including five maximums, but there were also stellar performances from Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn. This is a strong South African side with a varied bowling attack and deep batting line-up.
Stan James are offering odds of 4/5 on the South Africans maintaining their 100% Super Eights record, whilst England are available at 2.2 (6/5) on Betfair. A depth of skill and experience in their bowling attack suggests that your money should be on the South Africans, but we can be sure that a weight of patriotic money will find its way to backing England.
Eoin Morgan top scored in England’s two opening games of the World Cup, he is 6/1 with Stan James to be his side’s top run scorer, whilst Pietersen’s exploits against Pakistan can’t be ignored and he is 3/1 in the same market. Backing both to level stakes should see you in a comfortable position.
As for South Africa, well Kallis looks to have picked up where he left off in the IPL and although he is favourite at 13/5 with Bet3565 there is no reason why he can’t deliver again.
