ENGLAND VS SRI LANKA ICC WORLD TWENTY20 SEMI FINAL BETTING TIPS
After years of ridicule, stubbornness, underachievement and altogether cluelessness England are finally getting their act together on the Twenty20 stage and are in danger of becoming a very good side, if they aren’t already.
A faultless Super Eights campaign has resulted in a smooth passage into the semi-finals of the Twenty20 World Cup and a crunch match against Sri Lanka, one of the games most innovative sides since its inception on the international stage.
It appears that Eoin Morgan has brought the same pioneering methods to the England side which Tillakaratne Dilshan did to Sri Lanka in last year’s tournament with The Dilscoop. Although Dilshan has had to scratch around for form this year there has been no holding back Morgan whose reverse sweeps and immaculately timed innings often command looks of joyful bemusement from the England dugout.
Kevin Pietersen was in devastating form before he took leave of absence to be at the birth of his child and he is set to return to the set-up for this semi-final fixture. The concurrent long-haul flights could have an adverse effect on the new father and I’d prefer to side with Morgan at 11/2 with Boylesports in the Top England Batsman market, but I wouldn’t be averse to having a saver on KP.
Sri Lanka have relied heavily on the runs of Mahela Jayawardene this tournament and he is 3/1 with Ladbrokes to oblige once again. But it was a testament to their strength and depth that they could beat India on Tuesday despite their star man falling early. Angelo Mathews top scored (alongside Kumar Sangakkara) in that match and at 9/1 with BlueSquare he is a good value bet to do so again.
I also like the look of Paddy Power’s 5/6 on their being Over 10.5 6’s. With Pietersen back in the side and Morgan, Luke Wright, Craig Kieswetter, Matthews, Dilshan and Chamara Kapugedera all involved the front few rows of the Beausejour Stadium may need to be given hard hats upon taking their seats.
Despite all that I have mentioned it really doesn’t matter who or how each team get their runs, all that matters is a place in the final. England are 1.9 (10/11) on Betfair to be that team whilst Sri Lanka are 2.1 (11/10). Although England’s form suggests they are a good value price, Sri Lanka’s experience does the same for them. This is a match odds market probably best avoided, instead just sit back and enjoy the spectacle.
