ENGLAND VS USA BETTING ODDS AND LATEST TIPS FOR WORLD CUP 2010
This is easily the biggest match of the opening weekend in the English-speaking world, of course. Much has been written about this fixture, though the absence of Rio Ferdinand will force a reshuffling of previous thoughts, but I still think it really could turn out to be one of those horses-for-courses types of matches that runs fairly predictably.
In my opinion, the place to be doing your wagering on this match is definitely with Irish bookmaker Paddy Power as they are offering up a first-rate money-back special on this fixture. If Wayne Rooney scores at any point in the match, Powers will refund all losing 1st/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles on the match. That’s incredible as Rooney is the favoured anytime goalscorer in the match. Personally, I think he’ll hit the back of the net inside the first 30 minutes.
Taking a quick look at the correct score market, you’ll see that 1-0 to England is the favoured result at a 5/1 price while a 2-0 result pays out at 11/2. A 1-1 draw pays out at 13/2 while England 2-1 pays out at the same margin. England to win 3-0 pays out at 9/1 and 3-1, which I think is a very plausible scoreline, is a solid 11/1.
The USA’s odds to win 2-1 against England pay out at 19/1 while a 1-0 result is listed at 14/1. A 2-0 triumph for Landon Donovan & Co. pays out at a whopping 35/1.
As the favoured goalscorer, Wayne Rooney is the only player listed at an odds-on price to notch a goal at any point during the match. You’ll find Wazza priced at 10/11 anytime and 7/2 to score first or last. He is 5/2 to score first for England (a great bet) while he is 21/10 on the Insurebet first goalscorer.
Jermain Defoe is priced alongside Peter Crouch at 7/4 anytime and 11/2 first or last. Look for a price drop on the player who gets named in the starting line-up. If you’re confident that either one will start the first fixture, lock your bet in now. Emile Heskey is priced at 12/5 anytime, but the only time I think he would score is in a 1-0 result.
Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard are both listed at 13/5 anytime and 15/2 to score first or last. Lampard to score last looks good to me, and I think we’ll see a different Steven Gerrard this time around- buoyed by being awarded the English captaincy a mere week before the start of the tournament.
The one I am definitely tipping to score is Ledley King. I had him in the Mexico game (should have had him to score first) and you’ll find him at 12/1 anytime here. He is priced at 33/1 to score first or last and 30/1 on the insurebet.
For the United States, look for Landon Donovan as the favoured scorer with a 3/1 price and a 9/1 listing to score first or last. He’s 4/1 to score first for his team and 15/2 on the insurebet. Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore are both at 7/2 anytime and 10/1 first or last.
Wayne Rooney is 12/1 to score a hat-trick in this match- that’s very short odds. You saw how much effort he was putting in against the bloody Platinum Stars, so you know he’s going to come out all-guns-blazing against the USA.
