ENGLAND VS USA WORLD CUP 2010 ODDS AND BETTING TIPS
This is the big match that everybody is looking forward to early in the competition. There is so much at stake here and pretty much everybody agrees that whoever wins this fixture will likely take the group.
Anything but maximum points would be a disaster for England as the Americans should enjoy being considered the underdogs. Landon Donovan got some Premiership experience this season and that should bode well for his chances at getting a result against England.
England’s odds to beat the USA are priced at 4/9 while the draw can be backed at 11/4. The United States are a solid 5/1 to get the big upset over England. You know that tensions will be running high and I expect some robust challenges early in the match, especially from the Americans, as they will look to set the tone. There are more than a few interesting bets in this one.
The bookies don’t seem to favour a particularly high-scoring affair as England to win 1-0 is the favoured outcome at a 9/2 price while England 2-0 is a mere 5/1. A 1-1 draw pays out at 7/1 while England to win 2-1 pays 15/2. England to win 3-0 is priced at 13/2 and that’s quite short in my opinion. The USA are 12/1 to win 1-0 and 20/1 to win 2-1.
Wayne Rooney is the only player priced at odds-on to score at anytime with a 4/5 listing. He is 10/3 to score first and last and 7/2 to bag two or more. He’s 20/1 to score what would be a very famous hat-trick. Peter Crouch is next in line at 5/4 while he is at 5/1 to score first or last. Jermain Defoe is trading at 7/4 anytime and 6/1 first or last. I think he’s a great candidate to score last as he likely won’t start, but could take advantage of some tired American legs late in the match.
I will also be keeping my eye on Aaron Lennon at a juicy 4/1 price to score anytime. Joe Cole is 10/3 to score anytime for England.
Landon Donovan is well-priced at 11/4 to score anytime while Jozy Altidore trades at 10/3. Personally, I’m interested in the massive 12/1 price on Carlos Bocanegra. I could see him getting up from a set-piece.
The United States are a whopping 25/1 to come from behind and win while England are priced at 15/2 to do the same. I think this one is going to be a very solid match full of tackles and interesting attacking play. The sides contrast nicely and it is great for England to get their hardest fixture out of the way first.
